This systematic review examined the quality of the evidence for early anticoagulation therapy (started within 2 weeks of stroke onset) compared with control in people with AIS. 1 The primary outcome was death or dependency, at least 1 month after stroke. We also examined other outcome measures, including death from all causes, deep vein thrombosis, recurrent stroke, symptomatic intracranial (intracerebral or extracerebral) hemorrhage, confirmed symptomatic pulmonary embolus, and any major extracranial hemorrhage. We searched the Cochrane Stroke Group Trials Register, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Cochrane Library, and Embase until August 2021. We used the fixed-effects model and peto odds ratio (OR) as an effect measurement.
